A cleaning fanatic has shared how she keeps her clothes smelling clean without using tumble dryer sheets.
As we all know, the smell of freshly washed laundry cannot be beaten, but now that we’re heading into the colder months and using our washing line less and less, we’re forced to use the tumble dryer, which leaves our clothes smelling musty.
But not anymore, as cleaning fan Mrs D explained how to keep them smelling their best on her Instagram page @mrs.ds.cleaning.reviews, and all you need to get rid of the odour is a kitchen sponge, a fabric conditioner and a container with a lid, reports Daily Star.
She said: “It’s that time of year when the washing line is put away and the Tumble dryer gets turned on.
“My Tumble dryer sponges are prepped and ready for the Laundry today… your Laundry will smell amazing and you will no longer need to use tumble dryer sheets.”
In the clip, the cleaning guru places a Minky sponge – but any sponge will work just as well – into a plastic box then pours in two caps of fabric conditioner on top of it.
She then uses Mrs Hinch’s favourite scent – Lenor’s ‘Calm’ lavender and camomile – but of course you can choose your own.
Then, pour some lukewarm water over the fabric conditioner-soaked sponges.
Before the next step we recommend you to use rubber gloves or to add a little cold water, as you’ll need to push the sponges to make sure they absorb all of the mixture.
Finally, place a lid on your plastic container and your scented sponge can be used at any time.
She also suggests to slightly wring the sponge before putting it in the tumble dryer so that the fabric conditioner is not pouring out of the sponge.
Fans praised the thought the tip was brilliant, as they wouldn’t have to spend out on dryer sheets anymore.
One fan asked whether you should still use fabric conditioner in the washing machine, with which Mrs D replied that she always uses it when washing even if she’s using the sponges in the dryer too.
Another said the tip could be useful for her as the weather changes and she will have to turn on the tumble dryer more often.
And a third wrote: “The clothes smell of your favourite fragrance right up until they end up with and back in the washing basket.
“You’ve saved me so much money doing it this way rather than buy the tumble dryer sheets which I don’t think have the intended results.”
